TL;DR: Egos was born out of frustration with expensive cloud services and complicated NAS deployments.
We started Egos after watching friends and family struggle with two extremes: paying for expensive monthly cloud subscriptions, or spending weekends configuring NAS hardware. Existing self-hosted solutions required deep Linux knowledge, and most personal cloud tools either lacked intelligent search or pushed everything to public clouds.
Today Egos is built and maintained by a small, focused team who believes file ownership should be simple. We are committed to keeping Egos lightweight, private, and free for personal use.
Privacy first. Your files stay on your devices or your own storage. We never sell data, and we never scan your files for advertising. Open by default. Egos uses open protocols (WebRTC, HTTP, S3) and ships open-source components where possible. One-click setup. We obsess over reducing setup time. A working Egos node should take a single command or a single click.
